Our History

Established in 1989 by the Powell family, who operated it until 2008, Sunrise was then purchased by Mr. Butch Hampton of Hampton Funeral Home in Prescott whose family legacy began in 1956. Sunrise Funeral Home is a family owned establishment which has provided the Prescott Valley area with professionalism and compassionate care for nearly 30 years.

Sunrise Funeral Home was built with the intent to be a full service facility, including an on site chapel and crematory to ensure the care and consideration of families loved ones.

Henry “Butch” Clarence Hampton Jr.

Henry “Butch” Clarence Hampton Jr.

Henry Clarence “Butch” Hampton, Jr., is the current owner of Hampton Funeral Home as well as Sunrise Funeral Home and Crematory. A graduate of the California College of Mortuary Science, he is a licensed funeral director and embalmer for the state of Arizona. Butch also served 5+ years as a combat medic in the US Army National Guard. He is a member of the Arizona Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association.Butch was born and raised in Prescott, Arizona as well as raising his own family there. Being well known for his generosity and active participation in the Prescott community, he served as president for the Prescott Frontier Days rodeo, and the Yavapai Silent Witness organization, where he is currently a board member. Butch has operated the Hampton funeral home started by his father since 1976 and integrated the Sunrise location in 2008 to ensure it continued as a family operated establishment.
