Cynthia Lee Emery

Cynthia Lee Emery, 77, entered into heaven in the early morning hours of January 23, 2024 at her home in Dewey, AZ after a long battle with ovarian cancer and Parkinson’s disease. Born April 19, 1946 to Steve and Lola (Guyan) Acheson in Sioux Falls, SD at Sioux Valley Hospital, Cynthia was the eldest of three daughters. Growing up on a farm outside of Colton, SD, Cynthia attended school at the country school house until high school. She graduated Salutatorian from Colton Public School and went on to attend Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD where she graduated Magna Cum Laude as a double major receiving a BA in Elementary Education and in English. Cindy, as she was known to most, married her high school sweetheart, Elton Wendell Emery on June 28th, 1968 at St. Jacobs Church. The two moved to San Antonio, TX and began their 55+ year’s journey together. Cindy taught elementary school early in their marriage. She bore two children, Timothy Alan and Jennifer Lynn. She would stay home to raise them before returning back to work. Cindy taught preschool at American Lutheran Preschool and then would become the Director of the preschool for 16 years before retiring in 2008. During this time she touched many young children’s lives by teaching them about Jesus and planting the seed of salvation in their hearts. Cindy loved the Lord. She was involved in Bible Study Fellowship while living in Phoenix, AZ. She was very active in the Prayer Ministry at American Lutheran Church. She attended WOW (Women of Wisdom) there as well. She was always sending homemade cards of encouragement or songs of praise to encourage others. She had a heart for spreading the love of Jesus to those she knew. She was a wonderful prayer warrior, praying for her family and those she didn’t even know. Cindy loved to travel with Wendell. They enjoyed many camping trips and vacations to various National Parks and Monuments around the United States and Canada. She enjoyed being out in nature and learned photography from Wendell. Cindy loved to play the piano and was still playing well into her final months of her life. Flower gardening was also her passion. She loved working in the flower beds, especially her beloved roses! She is survived by her loving husband, Wendell, their two children, Timothy (Kate) Emery and Jennifer (Justin) Kreterfield as well as her four grandsons, Ethan (Netashia) Emery, Stephen (Haley) Parrott, Ryan Parrott and Mitchell Emery. She was preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Lola Acheson. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 4, 2024 at 1 pm at American Lutheran Church in Prescott, Arizona.
