Bernice Deschene

BERNICE DESCHENE (79) JUNE 11, 1943- February 6, 2023 Bernice (Jean) Deschene passed away Monday Jan 6, 2023, in Prescott AZ where she and her husband Glen, the love of her life, soul mate and best friend, live. Bernice was preceded in death by her son Donald Lopes, her son David Lopes, her brother Jerry Jean, her sister Pauline (Jean) O’Brien and her parents Gerard and Claire (Dionne) Jean. Bernice was born in Island Park, Portsmouth RI, she graduated from St Catherine's Academy, Newport RI in 1961. Through the years she worked as a Procurement officer for the US Government, a CNA for VA Hospital, nursing homes and home health and she was a CSR. Bernice’s husband Glen always speaks of her with true love in his eyes, he says that she was his world and that he was lucky to have found a woman as wonderful and kind as she was. She was the only person that he could love and trust completely. They enjoyed celebrating anniversaries and birthdays on cruises to Alaska and Mexico. He will miss holding her hand and telling her that he loves her every day. Bernice “Ma” is also survived by her son Daniel Lopes Jr and her daughter Becky (Jeff) Sanford, her children admired her for her strength, generosity, sense of humor, and her “tell like it is” attitude. Bernice had a great sense of humor and when we all got together there were always tons of laughs. She always made time for her children and grandchildren. There will always be sadness in their hearts. Bernice, Grandma “Nees” left behind 6 grandchildren, Mike (Jennifer) Lopes, Christopher Sanford, Heather Lopes, Jake Lopes, Bryan (Karen) Lopes and Samantha Lopes. 3 Great -Grandchildren Scarlett Lopes, Graham Lopes and Daphne Lopes. Her grandchildren truly loved her as she was generous, kind, wonderful, hilarious and vibrant lady. They liked to go for walks with her, people watch, listen to her wild and sweet stories. She always joked with the kids and when playing board games, she would cheat, or she would teach them how to cheat. They are going to miss calling her on the phone, she was easy to talk to and she would give advice to encourage and support you, those talks warmed their hearts and made them smile. She always made her grandchildren feel loved. The memories she made with them are going to be cherished forever. Bernice also left behind her sister Muriel (Jean) Barker and Sally (Jean) Helger, nieces and nephews that she loved very much. Bernice leaves behind beautiful, happy memories and she was a rare gem on this earth and is now with angels that left us before her. Bernice did not want a service.
