Virginia Russell

July 2, 1936 - November 15, 2021

Virginia Russell was born July 2nd, 1936, in Fort Towson, Oklahoma to Willie and William Nelson. Virginia went home to be with the Lord November 15, 2021, in her home after a long struggle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD). The youngest girl of 9 children, “Teensy” told stories of being a small child with a tiny sack, picking cotton in the fields with her father and brothers. Virginia was a resilient woman who loved her Savior and depended on Him through the trials of life. She was a lover of God’s creation, enjoyed flowers, watching sunsets and bird watching. She loved to worship and dance before the Lord, was an avid quilter, and liked Tole painting. Virginia was everyone’s “Grandma” and when she met anyone she liked, she would ask to keep them. She would share her favorite Lindt Chocolate truffles (if you behaved!) and made the best fried chicken. Virginia also enjoyed playing Rummikub with her family, driving to town for McDonald’s Frappe and walking around Walmart or the mall. For more than 20 years, Virginia lived at All Nations International, and was a strong intercessor with a deep desire to see all people know Jesus. She would always lean in to hear news of what God was doing in other countries. Her love for the fatherless and the widow led her to faithfully sponsor school children in Uganda and send regular support to her dearly loved Pauline Maduakor, founder of a children’s school and the “Nigerian Widows Project” in Nigeria West Africa. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents William and Willie (Van Epperson) Nelson; six brothers, Clarence, Amos William, Ervin and Clinton, Larry and Carrol Nelson, sister Dorothy Mae Lovelis and son Richard Russell. She is survived by her former husband James Russell, nephew James Tonelli, niece Katie Turner, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A Memorial Service will be Sunday, December 5, 2021 at 3 PM at Living Faith Church 7225 N Coyote Springs Rd. Prescott Valley, AZ, Pastor Randy Vanesian officiating. Virginia Russell was laid to rest in Arizona Pioneers Home Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona. Donations made in lieu of flowers will be used to honor Virginia’s favorite cause the “Nigerian Widows Project.” Visit www.all-nations.org/donate to make a secure donation.
