John Reeves

John T. Reeves, Sr. passed away at home on February 17, 2012 at the age of 88. John was born June 30, 1923 to Ernest and Helen Reeves, in Forman, Arkansas. He lived in Crowell, Texas until 6 years of age, at which time he moved with his family to Phoenix, AZ. He attended Roosevelt Elementary School and graduated from Phoenix Union High School. John was a World War II veteran and joined the Navy in May of 1944 where he served in the Asiatic Pacific area until 1946. He was honorably discharged, receiving the Philippine Liberation Medal with one star and the World War II Victory Medal. Upon returning to Phoenix, AZ he opened his own business, J & J Transmission & Wrecking Yard. John was active in his community and belonged to the South Phoenix Lions Club, Automobile Wrecking Assoc. and was a charter member of the Laveen Lions. He was an avid golfer belonging to the Thunderbird C.C., enjoyed fishing with his family in Oak Creek Canyon and the White Mountains and getting together with family and friends in Laveen, AZ. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Arlene Reeves, four children: Cathy Royse, Susie Gaston (Rod), John Reeves Jr. (Judy), Jim Reeves (Martina); four grandchildren: Zakary and Mandy Royse, John Thomas Reeves III, Amber Rowan (Tom); and three great grandchildren: Hadyn Reeves, Lily and Cody Rowan and one sister Martha (Rex) Wilson. John was a devoted Husband, Father and Grandpa. He will be greatly missed. A gathering for family and friends in memory of John, will be held at 2:00 pm on March 3, 2012 at the residence of Cathy Royse, 5303 W. La Mirada Drive, Laveen, AZ.
