John M. Rakyta passed from this world into his Heavenly home on Thursday, April 23, 2015. He was born on Dec. 27, 1940, to Walter G. and Anna Rakyta (Gauvernik). He has lived in Prescott Valley for 33 years. He sailed as a Merchant Seaman for 39 years. He was a life time member of the Yavapai Jeep Posse. He also was a Deacon at Trinity Lutheran Church where he enjoyed serving his Savior and his church family. John enjoyed making electric guitars, hunting, fishing, woodworking and spent many hours at the archery range. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and his best friend, Craig Pullman. John leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Judy; sons John II and Michael (Kim) Rakyta; his grandchildren, Misty (Roberto) Grimaldo, Brandon, Samantha, Kalebb; and a few who called him Grandpa, Nicole and Dallas; his brother, Ivan D. Rakyta; nieces, Teya Starre (Kaben), Christine Knoblauch (Paul); nephew Ivan Rakyta Jr.; and a host of great niece and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brother Ladd J. Rakyta; and son Joseph. John will be missed dearly by his family and friends. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3950 Valorie Drive, Prescott Valley, Arizona, with Pastor Tim Blau officiating.
