Mr. Fred A. Rubi Sr.

August 3, 1933 - July 8, 2014

Multi-generational Arizona native and U.S. Army veteran Fred Anthony Rubi Sr. passed awayTuesday, July 8, in Prescott from complications following a fall at his home. He was 80 years old. He was with family at the time of his death. Fred was born in Winslow (Arizona) on August 3, 1933, the son of Virginia (Lopez) Rubi and Lorenzo Sebastian Rubi. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 57 years Ina Mae Rubi, his sister Rose (Rubi) Rincon, and brothers Lorenzo “Eddie” Rubi, Frank “Bob” Rubi, Ernest “Philip” Rubi, and Arthur Rubi. After graduating from Winslow High School in 1951, Fred worked as a telegrapher for the Santa Fe Railroad. He met Prescott native Ina Mae Breckenridge, a telegrapher for Western Union, while on assignment at Grand Canyon. A courtship ensued and they married in 1954. He joined the US Army later that year. Fred earned a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona in Tucson, and a Masters degree from Arizona State University in Tempe. Fred had a long and distinguished career as an electrical engineer and executive. He retired from International Rectifier in El Segundo, California in 1999. Fred and Ina returned to their beloved Arizona from Rancho Palos Verdes, California following their retirements. Ina died in 2011. Fred is survived by six children: Sue Feltmann and her husband Larry of Prescott; Tony Rubi and his wife Barbara of Prescott Valley; Mark Rubi and his wife Laura of Boulder, Colorado; Michelle Bissonnette and her husband Ray of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Lori Williams and her husband Scott of Murrieta, California; and Angela Rubi Elliott of Temecula, California. In addition to his children, Fred is survived by his brother, Ray Rubi of Winslow (Arizona), and his sister Linda (Rubi) Crumm of Rio Vista, California. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Matt and Katherine Feltmann; Jolene Arnold, Ryan and Michael Rubi; Tricia, Heather, and Joshua Rubi; Lanelle (Williams) Gradilla and Jacob Williams, and also by 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 13, from 4-7 pm at Sunrise Funeral Home, 8167 E. Highway 69, in Prescott Valley. The Rosary Service and funeral will be held Monday, July 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 Fleury St., in Prescott. The Rosary will begin at 12:15 pm, and the funeral mass will follow at 1 pm. Graveside service will be at 2:15 pm at Mountain View Cemetery, 1051 Willow Creek Road, in Prescott. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Fred's name to the charity or library of your choice. Fred was an avid reader and had many philanthropic interests. The family also recommends donations to St. Germaine Catholic Church, 7997 E. Dana Dr., Prescott Valley, AZ 86314; and the Good Samaritan Marley House, 1063 Ruth St., Prescott, AZ 86301.
